Nine Inch Nails is the studio name for Trent Reznor, as well as the name of the band hired by him to perform songs while on tour. It is an industrial rock band, the most recognized one since the genre was introduced.

Nine Inch Nails (known as NIN for short) was formed in Cleveland, Ohio, circa 1988, and have so far released seven full-length studio albums, as well as many EPs, remix albums, and live releases. Reznor is the only official member and has always been solely responsible for the musical direction of the band. His lyrics are largely concerned with the exploration of the self, but with his most recent albums, Year Zero and The Slip, the lyrical focus has shifted somewhat to extrospection. After recording a new album, the assembly of a new band usually follows, along with extensive touring; the live component of Nine Inch Nails is largely considered a separate entity from NIN in the recording studio. NIN's live shows often involve visually spectacular elements such as screens and lighting rigs, which were used on the Self Destruct, Fragility, With Teeth Arena Tours (Fall & Spring) and Performance 2007 tours, and often culminate with the destruction of musical instruments.
Leo Herrera is a studio engineer for Nine Inch Nails, and has worked on various releases including Broken, The Downward Spiral, And All That Could Have Been and Still. During the Fragility period, photos of Leo were frequently posted on nin.com, showing him pursuing his various interests including picking fights with kangaroos, and checking out porno theaters. However, in recent years he has been replaced in his position as Trent's bitch by Dancing Brett.

But as of July 25,2008 Leo has gone back to touring with NIN.

He can be seen in a hotel with Trent on Closure recording parts of the Natural Born Killers soundtrack, especially an edit of Something I Can Never Have.

He has also engineered for industrial rock artist Ricky Martin.

Jeff Ward (November 1962–March 19, 1993) toured with Nine Inch Nails briefly in their early days. He had also worked with Ministry (with them notable singing lots of vocals in the song Breathe), Lard, Low Pop Suicide, and Revolting Cocks, among others. He was an extremely buff guy, and had a country cowboy meets flava flav-jewelry type look and he occasionally wore glasses. On stage sometimes he also had a Paul Bunyan/Norwegian style look. Seriously, he weighed about 310 lbs. and it was all pure muscle. He was just a little shorter than Trent Reznor. He was without a doubt the fattest person ever in Nine Inch Nails, outweighing Jeordie's beergut by a ton.

Sadly, Ward died in 1993 of self-induced carbon monoxide poisoning after a long struggle with heroin addiction. Before this it was reported he killed his wife. The Downward Spiral contains a dedication to him in its liner notes.

Keith Hillebrandt is a sound-desiger, remixer and programmer from San Francisco who has worked within the music software business and with/for various artists such as Stevie Wonder, Consolidated and David Bowie. He has also manipulated sound in many musical outfits including Nine Inch Nails, Blast Conservatory, Cleopatra System and Full Court Press (a band he was in), as well as working in Naut Humon's Sound Traffic Control. Keith Hillebrandt has also released a solo album. On David Bowie's I'm Afraid Of Americans, Hillebrandt is listed as a full member of NIN along with Dave Rave Ogilvie, Lohner, Clouser, and of course Captain Winky. So this now (since it's true), brings the list of actual past NIN members to near 1,000,000.
James Woolley was the touring keyboardist for Nine Inch Nails during the later Pretty Hate Machine tours (most notably Lollapalooza 1991), and toured with them through most of the Self Destruct tour, including their Woodstock performance, before being replaced by Charlie Clouser in December 1994.

Previous to NIN, Woolley was a major collaborator along with former NIN drummer Chris Vrenna to Chicago band Die Warzau. In 1994, just before NIN hit the road, Woolley contributed heavily to Sister Machine Gun's album Torture Technique.

Subsequent to NIN Woolley made contributions to Die Warzau albums again, particularly 2005's Convenience album. In 1998 Woolley toured with Rob Halford's one-time band Two, which also included John5 of Marilyn Manson fame. With Two Woolley played live keyboards, and did quite a bit of vocals as well. After Two Woolley did some studio audio work in L.A. By 2005 Woolley had relocated to Chicago. Since 2006, he has been involved in a new band V.O.I.D., who's long awaited album is due in early 2009. The band is led by Woolley and features players Jon Roberts, Mark Pearlman, and DJ Aaron Chase. A demo is available at V.O.I.D.'s MySpace page: www.myspace.com/voidspace. James has also collaborated in the past in a minimal sense to the music of jazz group NRG Ensemble.

A demo is available at V.O.I.D.'s MySpace page: www.myspace.com/voidspace

Sadly, Ward died in 1993 of self-induced carbon monoxide poisoning after a long struggle with heroin addiction. Before this it was reported he killed his wife. The Downward Spiral contains a dedication to him in its liner notes.
However, in recent years he has been replaced in his position as Trent's bitch by Dancing Brett.

But as of July 25,2008 Leo has gone back to touring with NIN and has reclaimed his spot as Trent's bitch again.

He can be seen in a hotel with Trent on Closure recording parts of the Natural Born Killers soundtrack, especially an edit of Something I Can Never Have.

In addition to NIN, he has also done engineering for some sellout shitty bands.
