This is the original version. Beginning with a building guitar noise, thick drums soon come in, followed by more discordant guitar screeches. All the guitars soon stop and the drums and a synth bass are left to play behind [[Trent Reznor]]'s and Maandig's quiet singing.

"Parasite" was performed live on the How To Destroy Angels Live 2013 tour.

It was [[Cover Songs|covered]] by [[Nine Inch Nails]] with [[Mariqueen Maandig]] during the [[NIN + QOTSA Tour]], and without Maandig during the [[NIN 2017-2018]] tour. It was then performed once as a remixed/mash-up version in collaboration with [[Boys Noize]] on Act III the [[Peel It Back Tour]], using Boys Noize's song "Xpress Yourself" as the base.
