Adrift And At Peace
This is the only version available . This instrumental track begins with soft synths and looping piano chords. A high-pitched melody played on a dampened and/or detuned piano enters over the top. After several measures, this melody then shifts down one octave. After several more measures, synth bass comes in. A quick but disorienting pan to the left happens at around the two minute mark. As the song nears its end, the synth bass disappears and a different high-pitched melody comes in. This melody closes out the momentsong, isolated and slowing down slightly.
Live
"Adrift And At Peace" was performed with a string quartet at the 2006 Bridge School Benefit.
Frequently since On the With Teeth: Summer Amphitheater Tour and Performance 2007, Reznor has played a piano-only version of "La Mer," including an initial improvisation, before playing "Into the Void," and is sometimes this performance has been confused with "Adrift And At Peace."
