A live ==Versions=====Piggy===Characterized by its very simplistic structure and quasi-jazz style, "Piggy" contains a simple set of drum and other percussion loops with only bass and organ accompaniment, joined by piano and noise loops in the latter half. While the melody is different, the rhythm and structure of the outro bassline is reminiscent of the acoustic sections on "[[The Becoming]]". Though heavily debated, the album version of "Piggy" is the first of several songs on ''The Downward Spiral'' to incorporate the famous "Downward Spiral Motif." While this song appears version of the motif does not contain the final "five note measure" found on 2002's Live Release other songs such as "[[Closer]]" and "[[And All That Could Have Been The Downward Spiral (halosong)|And All That Could Have BeenThe Downward Spiral]]", the structure remains relatively the same. The chaotic, extended drum solo/outro was happenstance. Reznor explained more in a 1994 interview with ''Keyboard Magazine''[https://www.theninhotline.com/archives/articles/manager/display_article.php?id=548]: <blockquote>For that part, I had a rigid, weird sixteenth-note pattern going. A kit was set up in the dining room, and I was playing along, fuckin' around, testing out the drums. I'd go in the other room, start the machine, run back in, put the headphones on, and play along. [[Robin Finck]] would walk on to the B-stage at the beginning of the song. After the final chorus, [[Ilan Rubin]] or [[Josh Freese]] would play a drum solo, being projected onto the main stage curtain while the rest of the band moves from the B-stage to the main stage.
