It initially had a digital single release on November 21, 2024, and later received a Record Store Day Exclusive Release on 7" vinyl (limited to 2500 copies) on April 12, 2025, which included an exclusive instrumental version of the song.

Luca Guadagnino cast Apollo in the film with the intention of singing the song, so Reznor and Ross had written the framework of the song in Englishwith the title "God Damn You", [https://bsky.app/profile/treznor.bsky.social/post/3ld77r4ttgk2y] before asking Apollo to come to their studio to work on and record the song. After cutting the song from the film, Guadagnino suggested reworking it to be the end credits song.
