To date, it has won the most awards out of all Reznor and Ross [[Soundtracks|score work]]~~. It was released on vinyl, digital , and CD on December 18, 2020. Per [[John Crawford]] on [[Echoing the Sound]], it was confirmed that the release has the [[Null numbers|Null12]] 12 release number. To date, it has won the most awards out of all Reznor and Ross [[Soundtracks|score work]], and earned the pair their second Academy Award and Golden Globe wins. The film contains a visual Easter egg in the form of a sign on a hardware store, having a sale on [[Nine Inch Nails|9 in. nails]].

The vinyl is Reznor and Ross's score by itself, while the digital and CD versions combine Reznor and Ross's score with music from and inspired by the film (mainly by jazz artist Jon Batiste).) The digital and CD versions are listed by retail outlets as a soundtrack rather than a score, and the CD was only released internationally. A special crystal-clear vinyl was released exclusively through Target. The jazz portion of the film's music also had a separate vinyl release.

Pixar film productions often produce a complete score album that is only given out at the cast and crew wrap party. Although there was no wrap party for ''Soul'' (due to COVID-19), a "Cast and Crew Special Edition" vinyl was still distributed. It contains Jon Batiste songs on Side A and the Reznor and Ross score on Side B. From the tracklisting, it appears that it may contain some unique versions of some score cues.

An awards season For Your Consideration sampler was released both on CD and for streaming from the Disney Studios Awards website. The song versions mostly corresponded to the retail album release, though ineligible songs were removed. "Jump to Earth" is slightly shorter as it cross-fades into the next song. "Portal" has a proper fade-out ending, as it no longer cross-fades into "The Hall of Everything". "Fruit of the Vine" has a couple edits in the middle and end which make it shorter.
