"Gave Up" has seen regular playing time in live shows since its debut on [[1994/08/27 Rochester, NY|August 27, 1994]]. When performed live, the high pitched vocals in the choruses and the drum loop at the beginning are from the album version, played back in time with the rest of the band playing live.
Since the [[Fragility]] touring cycle, "Gave Up" has generally been performed as a transition to the "mini-set", a now-staple in Nine Inch Nails live performances. The mini-set often has a scrim or screen drop down, and the tone of songs change to either slower, quieter songs ([[Further Down The Spiral Tour]], Fragility, [[With Teeth Fall Arena Tour|With Teeth Fall]]/[[With Teeth Spring Arena Tour|Spring Arena Tours]], and [[I Can't Seem To Wake Up 2017]]), electronic songs ([[Performance_2007#Summer.2Ffall_tour|Performance 2007 Summer / Fall Tour]], [[Lights In The Sky Tour]], and [[Peel It Back Tour]]) or a mix of the two ([[With Teeth Summer Amphitheater Tour]], [[Wave Goodbye Tour]], and [[NIN 2013-2014]]). "[[Wish (song)|Wish]]" is often the song that directly follows the mini-set.
