Versions
All Time Low
This is the original album version. Following an extended ambient introduction, the main body of the song is introduced, with a dance beat loop surrounded by jangling guitars unique to this track; the bass riff and beat closely resemble, intentionally or not, that of the ABBA track "The Name of the Game". The outro features descending, echoing synth melodies also rarely used in NIN tracks. Fans have noted that these arpeggios are similar to the crystal theme from the video game Final Fantasy. The verse vocals recall the delivery used atop the similarly-danceable electronics of "Vessel".The lyrical line "it looks as though they're here to stay" is also used in the previous track on the album, "Find My Way", and the lyric may be a reference to the David Bowie song "Oh! You Pretty Things".
All Time Low (Instrumental)
Live
This song debuted live on the first night of the Tension 2013 Tour. For this song, Palladino's bass is was very prominently featured and if the song is was present early in the set, it's was generally the first use of the backing vocalists, Lisa Fischer and Sharlotte Gibson. The stealth screen in front has had red thrumming coloration projected onto it for most of the song (similar to the general appearance of "Closer") before slowly becoming a multicolored aurora towards the end. At some shows, Trent sings Reznor sang the chorus to "Closer" during this portion, before the final repetitions of "stretch across the sky."
"All Time Low" dropped off the setlist during the European leg of the 2014 tour, and has not been played since.
