Since 2023, Rubin has played drums in Danny Elfman's live band, replacing Josh Freese, alongside [[Robin Finck]] and [[Stu Brooks]].
Rubin returned to play drums and other instruments on tour each time Nine Inch Nails came off hiatus in 2013, 2017, 2022, and 2025. In 2025, it was announced that Rubin would be leaving to join Foo Fighters, being replaced by Freese, who himself had been fired from the band the same Foo Fighters earlier that year.
