===Interpretation"Crystal Japan" resemblance==="A Warm Place" is regarded as the turning point of the album. It is the only instrumental, discounting the practically inaudible spoken words at the beginning. Its tranquil and soothing nature highly contrasts with the other tracks on the album, which all contain loud and angry parts. The previous track, "[[Big Man With A GunTrent Reznor]]," is arguably has been accused of ripping off the most chaotic on the album. The narrator asserts his power and domination over samples of tortured screams. The last instance theme of "A Warm Place" from [[nothing can stop me nowDavid Bowie]]'s 1980 single " in the album is shouted, and this is perhaps his last straw (no pun intended). At just over a minute and a half, "Big Man With A Gun" suddenly collapses, and Crystal Japan"A Warm Place" starts immediately. The narrator has begun a drastic change in point of view. He experiences a moment of clarity to truly consider his situation in a way unhindered by intoxicants, or perhaps enhanced by them. Backed by the melancholy piano tune, he realizes who he has become and what he has done. He had known subconsciously before, and he had voiced the varying attributes did state that Bowie's album ''Low'' (the title of "[[The Becoming]]" being the most obvious example1977), but he had not yet come to grips with the real consequences of his character and actions, which differ from biggest influence in the extreme views he had expressed previously. The song Again, I was recorded in 1999 told I was too 'pop' for Trent. I did something really stupid and risky then. I had written lyrics and melody to it, and i just, really wanted to see if it would work. I didn'' but was not includedt want anything to jeopardize the possibility of this working (for instance, if my lyrics really were "too pop"), so i broke the words up into a kind of code, pronouncing the wrong syllables, allegedly due etc. I had been listening to a quarrel between Reznor and Billy Corganlot of Hildengard Von Bingen's "A Feather on the Breath of God". A lyric that had stuck with me, on that recording, who produced was "illum tangendo' which is a very old form of Latin for the soundtrackphrase "touching Him". Without permission, I recorded vocals on top of Trent's release. PreviouslyI didnt play it for anyone, until Bud Carr (the song had never been officially released although Katsoudas has used it in some ballet performances and music supervisor for the Stigmata soundtrack) called me asking for submissions for the track surfaced movie he was working on torrent sites. More recentlyI think I just wanted somebody to acknowledge that, working with Trent, could still happen (even though, the everyone, was telling me to forget it. i could not forget it.) I submitted 5 tracks to Bud. Ofcourse, he called me enthusiastic about 1 track has been uploaded , "a warm place'. I got scared. He said "I'm usually an asshole about people trying to use my music, but I was pleasantly suprised when I heard this. Did you want to come to New Orleans to re-cut this?". I spent about 4 days at his studios. I met a really cool guy named "rave" that engineered this moon is making version. Trent produced it. I had a blast. I stayed at the famous Pontchatrain Hotel, which sadly, I think, was washed away with Katrina. I cried when I left, but not until I was out of sight. It was a kind of victory and a dream, all rolled into one. A couple years ago, someone cry touching himtold me that he posted it onto his remix site on nin.com. Now that was the coolest thing ever. "A Warm Place" made its live debut on [[2009/08/23 New York, NY|August 23, 2009]], at Webster Hall in New York City. Much of the song's live incarnation consists of pre-recorded samples, such as the constant tremolo guitar that runs throughout, while the band members man keyboards to recreate some of the other melodies. The song was also performed at the Hollywood Palladium nine days later on [[2009/09/02 Los Angeles, CA|September 2, 2009]]. The song was performed in a special remixed version during the [[NIN 2013-2014]] touring cycle. [[Alessandro Cortini]] confirmed the unnamed live remix on twitter. More soft and synthetic, it was played with nobody on stage except sometimes Cortini. This was done in a similar way again during the [[Cold And Black And Infinite Tour]], with [[Atticus Ross]] also playing. ==Sample==A barely audible message is heard layered under the track in the very beginning of the song (repeating approximately 6 times.)
