The EP was officially announced on July 13, 2017. It is scheduled to be released digitally on July 21, 2017, under [[Trent Reznor]]'s label [[The Null Corporation]], followed by the release of a physical component the week of August 8 and a CD release on September 1. A 12" vinyl version is also expected to follow. This The EP acts as the second installation of a trilogy following the 2016 release of 's first track, "Less Than", was released digitally on July 13, 2017, with an accompanying music video directed by Brook Linder. "This Isn'[[Not t The Actual Events]]''Place" was made available on the official NIN YoutTube channel on July 18, 2017.
