In an eerie[http://thetentosaga.com/theninwebpit/axcess.html interview], quiet machine-like sound collage [[Trent Reznor]] stated that transitions into a nearly identical-sounding musical composition. The lyrics seem he would have liked the song to be directed towards an old cohort of Trent's, probably female and probably have been released as a romantic relationship turned soursingle.

A demo version of this song, entitled The track "[[Liar (Reptile Demo)She's Gone Away]]" makes a reference to this song and because of the fact that "She's Gone Away" was written for ''Twin Peaks: The Return'', was included on it is strongly speculated that "Reptile" is inspired by the 10th anniversary re-release character of The Downward SpiralLaura Palmer.
