Primary contributors are the Reid brothers, Jim and William. The band draws heavily from garage rock and noise and is a forerunner of the shoegaze genre. Their song "Snakedriver" appears alongside [[Nine Inch Nails]]' rendition of "[[Dead Souls]]" on the 1994 soundtrack to ''The Crow.''

Nine Inch Nails was the opening act for The Jesus and Mary Chain's [[Automatic Tour|1990 tour]] in support of their third record, ''Automatic''. The Jesus and Mary Chain were then chosen in 2018 as the main support act for NIN's [[Cold And Black And Infinite Tour]].
