===Ghosts and Daydreams===
Following the release of Williams' album and his release from Interscope, Reznor embarked on a musical experiment. The experiment was ten weeks of improvising and experimenting in the studio, and seeing what came out from it. What started as a 5-song EP soon grew into a 36-song collection that became known as ''[[Ghosts I–IV]].'' Reznor will release the first volume in four parts in a 2-CD set on April 8, 2008, with a download and streaming option becoming available on March 2, 2008. Inspired by daydreams and experimentation, ''Ghosts'' returns to Reznor's introversion and self-exploration. Around 700,000 people downloaded or bought the record in the first week of its release. Within the first week of the record's release, Reznor made US$1,619,420. Year Zero was released last year, it has sold 480,000 copies. Trent Reznor has made around US$960,000 off Year Zero. That was when he was signed to a record label. He made US$659,420 more off Ghosts I - IV in its first week than he did off Year Zero when its been out for a year. Also remember, he doesn't have to deal with a record label. It's a win win situation for Trent Reznor.
Today, Reznor is happier than he's ever been. He feels that he has found his calling in life and has found joy in creating music. Although he admits he could very easily relapse into his old ways, because he has been there, he has said he never wants to go back. He currently resides in Los Angeles with his dogs.
