On February 16, 2009, Reznor announced that the 2009 tour would be NIN's last "for a while." On April 30, 2009, the tour had been renamed from "NIN 2009" to "Wave Goodbye." On May 5, 2009, Reznor disclosed in an interview that this would be the last NIN tourfor at least several years.
