This is the second soundtrack that Reznor and Ross have worked on together, the previous being ''[[The Social Network Soundtrack]],'' also for David Fincher.
The soundtrack details were announced December 2nd 2011, along with a free sampler. Earlier that day, [[Immigrant Song]] premiered on KROQ radio, and was made available as a download to anyone who purchased the iTunes preorder of the album. In addition, the iTunes preorder was accompanied with an extended, 8 minute trailer for the film, scored specially by Reznor and Ross. The digital album was will be made available on the December 7th, and the CD on December 27th.
Its release number is [[Halo numbers|Null 02]], in keeping with [[The Null Corporation]]'s numbering system.
