The soundtrack was originally confirmed on January 7, 2011, on a New York Times panel interview with Reznor. A teaser trailer for the film was later released online on June 2nd (previously being attached to certain domestic and international films), featuring a cover of Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song", by Reznor, Ross and Karen O (from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs).
On August 10th, [DragonTattoo.com] (the film's official website), was updated to feature background music, with the filename "Dotcom.mp3". As was the case with "Hand Covers Bruise" from The Social Networks official site, this backing music was the first piece from the score to be available for listening.
What Is Hidden In Snow
Following a clue on ComesForthInTheThaw, the website WhatIsHiddenInSnow.com was found, which led to a series of treasure trails around the world, finding pieces from the film as part of an Alternate Reality Game promotion.
EDM concert series
As part of the promotion for the release of the film in December 2011, Reznor partnered with concert promoter Gary Richards to create a free concert series called "HARD X Mouth Taped Shut". The concerts each featured four or five EDM artists and took place in Stockholm, Chicago, New York City, London, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. Reznor did not attend the concerts. There were unique, exclusive t-shirts and posters available for purchase at each concert that featured the Lisbeth Salander silhouette, along with the city name and date.
Multitracks
On 26th January, 2012, Tunecore released multitracks for "Great Bird Of Prey", "Oraculum", "Parallel Timeline With Alternate Outcome", "The Heretics" and "You’re Here".
Samplers=Website ====Free Sampler=
A free 6-track sampler was offered for free on the soundtrack website prior to the album's release, similar to the sampler released for The Social Network. The tracks all were a few seconds shorter or longer than the album variants, due to mixing to make them work better as a simple 6-track release.
Award Show Sampler
As with The Social Network, a sampler was sent to various Film Award bodies for consideration, with a different tracklist and track names. Although the tracklisting is longer than the commercial soundtrack, its run time is shorter. This is due to the requirement that the voting bodies have only original music, and so that they can link the appropriate scene to the music cues. Also, unlike the commercial soundtrack, each disc is numbered separately, as opposed to continuous numbering.
Total run time: 1:24:08
===Academy Awards Sampler===In January 2012, a new sampler CD was issued for the Academy Awards which contained the same tracks but rearranged into their sequential order in the film. The official Sony Pictures website was also updated with the sampler for public listening, the tracks unchanged but rearranged into their sequential order in the film.
