Move This Page?

Should be moved to Closer To God. ChunkyStyle

There is a remix called "Closer To God" and there are concerns that there would be confusion. For now, I think it's best to keep this page as "Closer To God (halo)."--Leo3375 09:39, 7 July 2007 (PDT)

Yeah, but Closer To God (the remix) is a remix of Closer, and its information can be found on the Closer article. I just think it would be easier to navigate if we moved it. The reason I requested it to be moved is because I type in URLs the old fashion way, i.e., Or maybe we can set up a redirect. ChunkyStyle

Another possibility is to create a disambiguation page, much like we have for "Head Like A Hole" and "Beside You In Time."--Leo3375 12:12, 8 July 2007 (PDT)

Closer to God(the song)

Is this a remix or a demo version? I only ask because it has different lyrics and music, also it doesn't seem to have a real point it just sort of sizzles out on a whole lot of noise, in short it feels like an unfinished song like a demo. Zeelog1 5:49, 5 August 2007 (PDT)

Single? or EP?

I don't quite understand it, so Closer to God is an EP, just like Broken?? and not a Single ?? it includes a song from an LP that recieved radio airplay (lots of it) as well as some remixes of the song, doesn't that make it a single?? Razielmxz 13:28, 18 July 2010 (PDT)

It's an EP due to LENGTH. The original way to separate singles, eps and albums was: SP, EP, LP. Due to the pretty impressive total runtime of the release, there's no way this can be considered a "single" release - although the UK editions DO fall in the single category. Confusing, of course, but that's how record labels roll sheepdean Try to speak as clearly as you can 13:34, 18 July 2010 (PDT)
Doesn't "maxi-single" apply to this? Even if it isn't explicitly written on the cover, like on Head like a hole...BenAkenobi 21:58, 18 July 2010 (PDT)
By technical definition, a maxisingle has to be 40 minutes or less, this over 10 minutes too long to qualify as one. Consider it a remix EP of Closer, designed to promote the album imo sheepdean Try to speak as clearly as you can 01:27, 19 July 2010 (PDT)
Let's go by definitions given in "Body Of Work" on BYIT. Closer To God is named single there, listed as EPs are Broken, Fixed, Further Down The Spiral, Perfect Drug Versions and EDIETS. How about that?BenAkenobi 02:58, 19 July 2010 (PDT)
How about "EP-length single"? It doesn't carry the name of the A-side and is still almost an hour long, I don't see how this can truly be considered a single sheepdean Try to speak as clearly as you can 03:18, 19 July 2010 (PDT)
you can't apply the industry standard to one and not the other. industry standard EP length is 25 minutes. that's a no-go, sarge. and considering it calls the hour-long Further Down the Spiral an EP (it isn't), the Body of Work included on the DVDs is (technically) misleading. you can't call a 10- (or 11-) track, hourlong disc (FTDS) an EP - it just isn't. same goes for CTG and EP - it's twice as long as an EP standard, but meets all the criteria of a maxi-single except length. LP-length maxi? - seasonsinthesky 06:54, 19 July 2010 (PDT)
How about "EP (referred to as a "single" in the NIN discography).." sheepdean Try to speak as clearly as you can 07:53, 19 July 2010 (PDT)
Geez, never thought my question woould create such a controversie =S i know nothing about musical standards whatsoever, so i can't help =( Razielmxz 21:51, 20 July 2010 (PDT)
We're called "nerds" :P.
How does everyone feel about "EP-length single"? Single IS the wrong name, but it was technically marketed as one. Although I'm almost tempted to call it LP-length... sheepdean Try to speak as clearly as you can 05:55, 21 July 2010 (PDT)
You're the boss, Sheepdean, but say honestly where do you find the need to invent a special name for a release which is clearly Maxi-single, no more, no less BenAkenobi 06:23, 21 July 2010 (PDT)
It's not a maxi-single, by definition. Basically, interscope misnamed this release, and/or made it too long. I guess we could just call it a single, it is one officially, but I just think it needs more definition due to length and original tracks. If there's a consensus for one name over another, I say we go for that, if no one can agree, we leave as is sheepdean Try to speak as clearly as you can 06:48, 21 July 2010 (PDT)
bringing it back over to this side, because we need to XD
my only other suggestion, Sheepy dear, is to call it a compilation. really, that's the most accurate term, because it IS a compilation of UK pt 1 and 2 (although i can't find release dates for the two UK singles for the life of me, so i dunno if they came out before the US version or not), and same goes for the MOTP US EP. it saves from the bitter, bloody battle over EP/maxi-/single classification, at least. - seasonsinthesky 14:03, 21 July 2010 (PDT)
I like your idea maybe we can do this: create an article for the UK releases pt1 pt2 (both on the same page), call them singles and add something like "both singles were compiled into one release called Closer to God" (and a link to this page) also add a disambiguation page for the search term "Closer" The Song, The UK Single. ?? Razielmxz 20:37, 21 July 2010 (PDT)
I think it's fine without extra page after i swapped the order in which versions are listed in article BenAkenobi 23:25, 21 July 2010 (PDT)
Heh, I can live with that. *waits four months until someone asks why it's a remix compilation* sheepdean Try to speak as clearly as you can 06:31, 22 July 2010 (PDT)
