It was both announced and digitally released as a free download on March 26, 2020, during the ''#STAYHOME'' initiative in the wake of the [[wikiwp:COVID-19pandemic|COVID-19pandemic]] isolation due to viral outbreak worldwide. It was released simultaneously with ''Ghosts''' third installment, ''[[Ghosts VI: Locusts]]''.

The album was released alongside ''Ghosts VI'', making it the only NIN release to date to be released at the same time as another Halo-assigned release. The album was released unannounced, with via a message from [[Trent Reznor]] and [[Atticus Ross]] on the [[nin.com]] website.:
