It was both announced and digitally released as a free download on March 26, 2020, during the ''#STAYHOME'' initiative in the wake of the [[wikiwp:COVID-19pandemic|COVID-19pandemic]] isolation due to viral outbreak worldwide.
It was released alongside ''Ghosts''' third installment, ''[[Ghosts VI: Locusts]]'', making them the only NIN releases to date to be put out simultaneously. They are also the only proper NIN album releases to be digital only.

The music of ''[[Ghosts I-IV]]'' bears little resemblance to ''Ghosts V: Together'', which is highly reminiscent of [[Soundtracks|score work]] by Reznor and Ross.
The typeface used on ''Ghosts I-IV'', Eureka Sans Caps Light, is also used on this album and ''Ghosts VI: Locusts''.
