Historically, there was confusion as to whether the music was credited to NIN or [[Trent Reznor]] alone, but this was cleared up by id Software designer American McGee[https://www.quaddicted.com/interviews/americanmcgee] and by the 2020 edition. Most versions of the video game included 10 audio tracks from the game as standard were distributed on a [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mixed_Mode_CD mixed mode CD-Audio files], so the game disc could be played in a CD player with the first track reserved for containing the video game data (which cannot be read by a CD player), and the remaining 10 additional tracks of musiccontaining standard CD Digital Audio. Some versions of The purpose is for the game include shortened edits of CD audio tracks to accompany the music video gameplay. The standard audio trackscan also be played back in a regular CD player.

Although the PDF booklet pixelated all the in-game screenshots (likely to avoid any rights issues, since Activision had objected to the inclusion of the booklet), super-fans of the game were quickly able to identify from which parts of the game the pixelated screenshots came. Several fan-created restorations of the booklet were created, and some fans even organized limited print runs of the restored booklets.

Alternatively, fan-made titles and game level names are often brought up when CD ripping/playing software looks up the information on the CDDB, and some of them ended up being the official titles. A particular weapon in game play is the "nailgun" which can be reloaded by collecting ammo boxes decorated with the [[Logo History|NIN logo]]. Also, Reznor was the original choice for sound design on id Software's ''Doom 3'', but circumstances halted his involvement. Former NIN member Chris Vrenna composed the game's theme song.
The game's readme refers to mentions something called [[Nothing Interactive]], an entity that has not never been to referred to before on any other NIN or since[[Nothing Records]] product.
