He has been part of the live band longer than any other member. His appearance, particularly during The Downward Spiral era with his intimidating tall stature, tied back dreadlocks, and over-the-top makeup, has arguably made him one of the most iconic members of NIN, other than Trent Reznor. On November 7, 2020, Finck and NIN were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.
Robin ==Biography==Finck is the former lead guitarist of began his career by playing for many local Atlanta bands, such as Prowess (who later changed their name to Bat Your Lashes and then Sik Dik), The Hookers, and Heroin (also known as Impotent Sea Snakes {ISS}, when in drag). When Nine Inch Nailssolicited guitarist auditions via VHS tape in 1993, Finck sent in a recording of himself playing the guitar naked. He That got Reznor's attention, and after auditioning in person, Finck joined the band in 1994-95 for the Self Destruct Tour tour. During this time, Finck was part of a one-off band (which also appeared included Twiggy Ramirez) called Sick Mutha Fuckers, which was essentially a Twisted Sister cover band that was conceived when White and Finck were playing Twisted Sister songs together for fun during soundchecks. They asked Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snyder to sing with them, he agreed, and the band at played a single show in New York City.[Woodstock '94https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/qkb73d/how-marilyn-mansons-twiggy-ramirez-helped-emptiness-embrace-their-inner-goth]] and features Finck also appeared on the 1997's Closure. video which was released in 1997.
Following touring with Finck left NIN he took a job playing in February 1996 in order to play for Cirque du Soleil and in late 1996 was recruited by their Quidam show. Through early 1997, Finck, while continuing to work with Cirque du Soleil, joined jam sessions with Axl Rose of and Guns N' Roses in a casual capacity, in the wake of Slash having departed the band in 1996. He signed a two-year contract to replace Slashjoin the band in August 1997, recording material for the Chinese Democracy album. Finck departed promptly at the end of the two years, in order to rejoin NIN in August 1999 as part of the live band for the Fragility Tour, and appears on the accompanying album/DVD, And All That Could Have Been.
Finck later Shortly after the NIN tour ended, he departed again and rejoined GN'R in October 2000 and remained in the lineup for almost eight years, even turning down an offer to rejoin NIN in 2005. There was apparently some animosity between him and Reznor around this time, as part of Reznor discussed in the live band for New Zealand Herald shortly before the release of With Teeth Tour : "Robin Finck [was] getting paid loads of money to hang out with Axl Rose and appears his house was getting paid for. You know what, fuck you." The grudge didn't last; on April 4, 2008, Finck's return to the accompanying album/DVDtouring lineup was announced via nin.com. He also remained for the Wave Goodbye Tour in 2009. In 2013, Reznor tried to shake up the live band dynamic with Adrian Belew and And All That Could Have BeenEric Avery, but they didn't work out during rehearsals. On May 17, 2013, Reznor announced via Twitter that Finck was back in NIN, stating that, "It just didn't feel like Nine Inch Nails without Robin Finck. Now it does."
Shortly Finck is a noted bird enthusiast, and his website discusses his fascination with them. Many NIN fans have noted after hearing of his avian fascination that many of his changes to NIN songs during the NIN Fragility tour ended in late 2000, he returned to GN'R stems from his bird-sound-inspired choice of guitar tones and sounds. This is still a member of especially notable on the Guns N' Roses linepre-upsolo section to "The Wretched" and "Just Like You Imagined." Finck appears in the NIN music videos for "March Of The Pigs", "Hurt" (live), "Eraser" (live), "Wish" (live), and "Into The Void".
In 2017, he appeared as part of Nine Inch Nails (in this case consisting of Trent Reznor, Finck, Mariqueen Maandig Reznor, Atticus Ross, Alessandro Cortini and Joey Castillo of Queens Of The Stone Age) in an episode of Twin Peaks: The Return. In 2020, Finck got his own signature guitar model, made by Reverend. Finck appeared on Danny Elfman's Big Mess album in 2021, alongside Josh Freese, and joined Elfman's touring band in 2023, alongside Ilan Rubin and future NIN bandmate Stu Brooks. Finck co-founded game studio Eyes Out with Cory Davis in 2021, and its first game, Sleep Awake, was released in 2025, with Finck also composing the score.
