Kollaps was an industrial-synthpop band formed in the mid 1980s by Andy Kubiszewski, Doug Beck, Richard Carpenter (all also in Exotic Birds, another early band Trent Reznor was in), and others. Reznor was in the band for a period of time before starting Nine Inch Nails. The band's name comes from the title of experimental group Einstürzende Neubauten's first album. Kollaps (the band) only released one three-track demo EP on cassette and 7" vinyl in 1987.
Richard Patrick was also a member of the band, recalling, "I was in this band called Kollaps. And I joined Kollaps in the beginning; it was like this ridiculous thing that...I didn't really understand what we were doing because I wasn't really familiar with industrial. ...And [Trent] saw me again with Kollaps later on...because he was in this band Kollaps with me. And then he left and went off and got a record deal..."[1]
