On April 27, 2000, Nine Inch Nails performed a special studio session at the Chicago Recording Company as part of the Live 101 series by Q101, a Chicago alternative rock radio station. About 40-50 Q101 radio contest winners were allowed to attend. The session was not broadcast on the radio. One or more tracks may have been intended for the Live 101 CD series, but none ever appeared on there either.

Some of the songs (specifically "Something I Can Never Have", "The Day The World Went Away", and "Hurt") were performed in new, stripped-down form, considered acoustic, and Trent Reznor stated that the performances inspired Still, part of the And All That Could Have Been release.

Lineup

  • Charlie Clouser: Keyboards
  • Keith Hillebrandt: Keyboards
  • Jerome Dillon: Drums, percussion
  • Robin Finck: Acoustic guitar, electric guitar, backing vocals
  • Danny Lohner: Acoustic bass, electric bass
  • Trent Reznor: Vocals, piano

Setlist

  1. "Something I Can Never Have"
  2. "The Day The World Went Away"
  3. "Hurt" (Take one)
  4. "Even Deeper"
  5. "The Big Come Down"
  6. "The Fragile"
  7. "Hurt" (Take two)

Bootlegs

An image of the eBay listing of the supposed officially mastered CD-R that was mailed to attendees of the show.

The soundboard quality audio bootleg of this performance is known as The CRC Sessions, Acoustic in Chicago, or Live and Deconstructed in Chicago.

In 2025, an eBay listing appeared for a CD-R that was officially mastered and mailed to the attendees. Differences to the tracklist include the CD having only one take of "Hurt" (which is split into two parts), omitting "The Big Come Down", censoring on "Something I Can Never Have" and "Hurt", and featuring an intro with James VanOsdol of Q101 talking to the audience.
