The sound is brighter (and in some cases happier) than that of the final versions tracks on Pretty Hate Machine; several this recording represent the state of the songs feature more drumming as they existed in October 1988, and guitar work throughout, as well as translated to a heavier use live performance setting with very little preparation (they only had about four days to rehearse). An 8-track reel to reel recorder provided much of samples from films. "[[Kinda I Want To]]" is reminiscent the backing tracks, with Musarra playing most of early house musicthe drum parts live. "[[TwistChris Vrenna]]" is an early version of "triggered segue noise and [[Ringfingersamples]]", featuring different lyrics faked some keyboard parts that were tracked, and less use of sample loopschanged the tapes. The entire album has segues leading each track into the nextReznor provided vocals and guitar.
Purest Feeling also features the full lyrics cut from the final versions of songs later released on Pretty Hate Machine; Reznor chose Comparing this rehearsal recording to print the full lyrics live performances in October and November 1988, during Nine Inch Nails' first shows opening for [[Skinny Puppy]], shows the Pretty Hate Machine booklet same running order (with excisions due to retain some of time constraints) and song performances. It is unknown if "Purest Feeling" was ever performed live, although it's possible it may have been at the original meanings of his songs[[TVT Records|TVT]] Showcase where Soft Cell's "[[Sex Dwarf]]" was performed, due to needing to fill out a longer performance slot.
