Shortly after finishing their run on the first-ever Lollapalooza tour, Nine Inch Nails went on their first-ever European tour. They played a mix of headlining and opening concerts over the course of one month. These dates were part of the Pretty Hate Machine Tour series.

The setup for this tour had an industrial aesthetic, and used basic lighting and fog machines. There was also a gate/cage-like structure made of metal pipe that went across the stage, separating the drum riser area from the rest of the band.
