A difference from the studio version for many years was noticeably louder drums that are persistent in the choruses. The keyboard part is usually played by the bassist ([[Danny Lohner]], [[Jeordie White]], and [[Josh Eustis]]). However, in 2009 and since 2014, [[Ilan Rubin]] also plays keyboard and the song is played with no drums. During the [[NIN 2013 Festival Tour|2013 Festival Tour]], Rubin played Cello cello while [[Alessandro Cortini]] played electronic drums.
On [[1991/01/22 Washington, DC|at least one live performance]], Reznor sang the unused lyrics in the ''Pretty Hate Machine'' booklet at the end of the song.
